Dr. Rachael Turkienicz - Biography
Rachael Turkienicz earned her Ph.D. in Talmudic and Midrashic Studies from Brandeis University and is a
Professor at York University in both the Faculty of Education and the Centre for Jewish Studies.
She is the host and co- producer of a weekly television series on women and spirituality,
writes a column for the Canadian Jewish News, and is a published author
both in her field of academia as well as in children’s literature.

Rachael is the former Associate Chair of Canadian Jewish Congress’ National Office
and is currently their representative with the Christian Jewish Dialogue of Toronto.
Rachael has co-founded a faith-based private school in Toronto and consults with several schools.
She is actively involved with teacher training and professional development.
Rachael was the first recipient of the Canadian Friends of Hebrew University Person of Distinction Award in 2005
and was featured on CBC’s Tapestry Programme.
Rachael is a Governor of the Canadian International Peace Project.
Rachael is the founder and director of an institute for Jewish studies called The Learning Centre,
an unaffiliated educational facility. The Learning Centre was transformed, in April 2008, to Rachael's Centre for Torah, Mussar & Ethics.
She lives in the Toronto area with her husband and five children

Rachael's Centre Policies
Canceled Class Policy
In the event that Rachael’s Centre cancels a class, we will try and schedule a make-up class.
If you are unable to attend the make-up class, a CD will be available for borrowing.
General Refund and Credit Policy:
In the event of a student withdrawal from the programme prior to its start date a refund or credit will be issued
for the full amount of the course fee minus a $60.00 administration fee.
If a student withdraws in the first week a full refund or credit will be given minus a $100.00 administration fee.
After the first week, refunds or credits will not be issued; with the exception of significant personal or family circumstances.
In these cases a refund or credit will be issued minus a $100.00 administration fee.
Access to Learning Policy:
If medical or financial hardship ever presents a problem meeting the course fee, please speak directly to Uliana.
Privacy & confidentiality is respected. No questions are asked.
Charitable Status Update:
Rachael's Centre for Torah Mussar & Ethics is now a registered charity in Canada.
Tuition fees do not qualify for tax receipts.
Web Access and CD Borrowing
We will continue to make CD’s available for borrowing on a limited basis.
This website will host class recordings that will be available to all registered students in the Beit Midrash Programme.
These recordings will be available within 24 hours of the class ending.
The complete library of class recordings will be available
throughout the term's duration and for four to six weeks following the date of the last class.

Rachael's Centre Learning Formats
Lecture
This learning format is based on a clear and structured curriculum guide. The first hour will be a study of the text with a formal presentation style.
Students are asked to write down any questions or comments they may have.
The last half hour will be devoted to an interactive discussion to answer questions and raise examples of themes within the studied texts.
Classes will accept registration with a minimum of 20 people to a maximum of 50. Each class will be 1.5 hours long.
Seminar
These classes are based on a curriculum guide designed to maintain some structure and to cover the course material.
Within this format there is more interactivity with questions and some discussion throughout the class time.
Classes will accept registration with a minimum of 15 people and a maximum of 35. Each class is 1.5 hours long.
Workshop
These classes are interactive, infused with a strong group dynamic.
Our discussions bring the textual concepts into real examples with increased depth as we progress.
Classes will accept registration with a minimum of 10 people to a maximum of 20. Each class is 2 hours long.
Chevrutah
This group is very personalized and interactive.
The topic of study is decided together and each class moulds around the particular areas raised by the students.
Multiple texts and Jewish information are brought to the discussions.
This group accepts registration with a minimum of 7 people to a maximum of 10. Each class is 2 hours long.
